Abstract

Children's literature has become an urgent necessity in our time, given its crucial role in instilling educational and moral values. The aim of children's literature and its mediums is not merely to ignite the imagination of young minds, but to provide them with scientific information, political systems, social traditions, religious and patriotic sentiments, and to expand their vocabulary, cultivate the habit of organized thinking, and connect them to the world's culture and civilization. Its mission is to strengthen a child's faith in God, country, goodness, justice, and humanity. This research will examine the educational rhetoric in Shawqi's narrative poetry and attempt to utilize it in texts presented to elementary school students, where values serve as cognitive, behavioral, and emotional objectives. This will be achieved through story-based teaching methods that help instill sound moral values. Furthermore, this will be accomplished by employing educational aids to enhance the learning process, clarify word meanings, explain ideas, train students in skills, cultivate habits, develop attitudes, and instill values, without relying solely on the teacher's use of words, symbols, and numbers. I chose to focus on a sample of Shawqi's narrative poetry because he says in the introduction to his "Al-Shawqiyyat": "I wish God would grant me success in creating for Egyptian children—as poets have done for children in civilized countries—comprehensive poems through which they can acquire wisdom and literature according to their level of understanding..." This study aims to examine the impact of narrative poetry on instilling values through an analytical study of a selection of Shawqi's poems directed at children. Our goal is to discover the nature of the values that constitute this creative experience and to identify the most important educational methods proposed for developing these authentic values and instilling them in children. Shawqi presented a system of diverse values in an engaging and distinctive artistic form. His poems combine the narrative characteristics of storytelling with the artistic characteristics of poetry, making them a special kind of rhetoric that we can call "rhetoric in educational discourse."
