Abstract

This study aims to analyze Morocco’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup as a strategic mechanism for promoting tourism development in light of the country’s constitutional commitments to sustainable development and territorial equity. It is based on the premise that hosting a major sporting event transcends its purely athletic dimension; it constitutes both a constitutional and economic opportunity to restructure tourism infrastructure and enhance Morocco’s global positioning as a sustainable destination.

The paper examines the expected benefits of hosting the event, including improved infrastructure, expanded accommodation capacity, strengthened territorial marketing, stimulated economic activity, and increased employment opportunities. It also addresses key challenges, such as high organizational costs, the sustainability of investments, and the effectiveness of territorial governance in managing large-scale projects.

Ultimately, the study concludes that leveraging the FIFA World Cup as a catalyst for sustainable development depends on aligning Morocco’s developmental vision with its constitutional obligations in the fields of tourism, environmental protection, and spatial justice.
