Artificial Intelligence and the Arabic Language: Strategies for Protecting Linguistic Identity and Enhancing Textual Authority in the Digital Space

This research addresses the challenges arising from the interaction between modern intelligent technologies and the Arabic language, within the context of the rapid digital transformation characterizing the current era. It focuses particularly on the risks threatening Arabic linguistic uniqueness due to reliance on AI platforms and models designed in different linguistic and cultural environments, which may undermine the textual authority of religious and heritage texts.
The research employed a descriptive-analytical approach to assess the current state of Arabic natural language processing, highlighting the gap between the structural features of the language and prevailing AI technologies. It also provided forward-looking insights on how to harness these technologies to serve the Arabic language while safeguarding its linguistic identity.
The findings indicate that artificial intelligence can represent an exceptional opportunity to enhance the digital presence of Arabic, provided that algorithms are “localized” and trained on accredited and verified textual databases that respect the semantic and grammatical characteristics of the language. The study also proposed models for smart educational applications aimed at promoting linguistic belonging among younger generations, and emphasized the necessity of coordination between technical institutions, language academies, and religious bodies to ensure a secure digital environment that preserves the status and referential authority of Arabic.
The research concludes with recommendations directed to policymakers, calling for the adoption of a technical and ethical charter that regulates the use of artificial intelligence in dealing with Arabic texts, ensuring the protection of linguistic identity from distortion or marginalization in the global digital space.
