This study explores the epistemic integration between Arabic linguistic sciences and Islamic religious sciences through the scholarly model of the eminent lexicographer and Qurʾānic exegete Majd al-Din al-Firuzabadi (d. 817 AH/1415 CE). It aims to demonstrate how his linguistic expertise shaped his exegetical methodology and to analyze the distinctive features of his Qurʾānic interpretation, particularly in his major work Basāʾir Dhawī al-Tamyīz fī Laṭāʾif al-Kitāb al-ʿAzīz. The study highlights his use of linguistic tools—root analysis, derivation, contextual semantics, and the theory of linguistic convention—in uncovering Qurʾānic meanings and linking them to overarching thematic purposes (maqāṣid) of the sūrahs.

Methodologically, the research employs a historical-descriptive approach to examine al-Firuzabadi’s intellectual formation and travels, and an analytical-inductive approach to selected exegetical passages, including a structural analysis of Sūrat Ṣād as a case study. The findings indicate that al-Firuzabadi offered a balanced model of linguistic-legal exegesis grounded in precise lexical analysis, authenticated transmission, and purposive interpretation of the Qurʾān. His exegetical corpus represents a bridge between lexicography, tafsīr, and maqāṣid studies, addressing a gap in scholarship that has largely confined his legacy to lexicography alone.

The study concludes that revisiting the contributions of linguist-exegetes such as al-Firuzabadi can help revitalize Qurʾānic exegesis by restoring the integrative relationship between language and revelation in both classical and contemporary
